Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a holistic, hands-on bodywork approach which originated in Japan, and literally translates to “finger-pressure” in English. Shiatsu is recognized and licensed in Japan as a distinct therapy from massage and other forms of bodywork, and the practice incorporates various tactile techniques to balance energy or “ki” in the body. Shiatsu techniques include applying finger and palm pressure and stretching muscle groups along meridians to contact and manipulate ki energy. This method also employs a variety of dynamic moves using different degrees of pressure to release tension, restore balance and harmony, improve immunity, relieve ailments, and increase energy flow of the body.
Comfortable clothing is recommended.
Additional benefits to shiatsu include deep muscle and tissue relaxation, stress reduction and management, toxin release, disease prevention, increased flexibility, improved blood circulation, reduced blood pressure, reduced mental anxieties, balanced ki, calmed nervousness, and increased mental and spiritual awareness.
